Paradise Datacom adds ViaSat technology to create powerful new modem

Intelek plc (AIM: ITK), whose activities include the design and manufacture of electronic systems and components for the satellite, wireless communications and defence sectors, is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Paradise Datacom, has reached an agreement with ViaSat Inc., a NASDAQ quoted company, to embed the latters Paired Carrier Multiple Access (PCMA) technology into Paradise Datacom modems for improved bandwidth efficiency. This technology can provide up to 50 percent reduction in the satellite space segment cost, which is by far the largest recurring operational expense.

Paradise Datacom will incorporate the PCMA feature into its new “Quantum” satellite modems.  The Quantum modem will also include industry leading IP and other cutting-edge features, creating what is arguably the world’s most versatile satellite modem.

Ian Brodie, Chief Executive of Intelek plc, commented:

“With global demand for satellite spectrum exceeding supply, space segment costs are critical.  The new Paradise Datacom Quantum modem with PCMA, and its other cutting-edge features, is unique in the marketplace, and provides our customers with the ability to greatly improve their profitability.”
