The Directors of Intelek plc are pleased to issue the following Trading Update for the financial year ended 31 March 2008.
"Strong trading continued throughout the period and we expect to report underlying profits comfortably ahead of market expectations. Major highlights of the financial year were:
- Paradise Datacom, our satellite amplifier and modem business, produced another strong performance, with anticipated profits ahead of last year, notwithstanding the effect of the weaker US dollar and slightly lower sales volumes. Paradise Datacom continues to extend its technology-leading market position in solid state amplifiers, and has recently launched a new lower data rate version of the Evolution modem that has quickly found support in the market place, including a recently-announced notable success in Africa. We continue to expand our global sales operations, having just opened an office in Thailand and expect to open another office in China in the near future.
- Labtech, our microwave components business, returned to profitability in the final six months of the financial year which, combined with its breakeven performance in the first six months, will show substantial improvement over the reported £0.5 million operating loss for 2006/07. Labtech has continued to apply its technical prowess in microwave circuit boards for AESA (active electronically scanned array) radars and has consolidated its position as a key Europe-based source of detector log video amplifiers for major European defence contractors.
- CML, our aerostructures company, will be reporting a further year of encouraging sales and profit growth. We are particularly pleased that CML has recently been approved to build composite parts for military aircraft and has received its first order under a major military aircraft programme. This should benefit the business for a number of years ahead. CML also stands to benefit under the recently-awarded contracts for military tanker aircraft, as these are based on an Airbus A330 derivative, on which CML is an existing supplier."
- Full preliminary results will be released on 9 June 2008.
