History

KWK (Birkenhead) Limited, the company which would become Intelek plc, was formed in Merseyside in 1949 to carry out precision machining for the aerospace industry. KWK grew into what is now the subsidiary, CML Group.

In July 1981, the company, then known as Aerospace Engineering, was floated on the USM and transferred to the Official List of the London Stock Exchange (full listing) in November 1983. In the same year, the company's headquarters were moved from Birkenhead to its current premises in Swindon following the acquisition of two companies from Vickers, VFP Fluid Power and VNE Nuclear.

The acquisition of Labtech Ltd. in 1990 and Pascall Electronics Ltd. in 1995 increased the proportion of group turnover from electronics to 70%. To reflect this change in focus, the group was renamed Intelek in April 1995.

The acquisition of Paradise Datacom in March 2001 represented an important step forward in the transformation of the Group, focusing activity firmly on the wireless communications market and giving the Group significant presence in North America - the single largest market for wireless communications equipment.

The North American satellite communications products business was expanded further by the purchase in February 2002 of the business and assets of Sierra Networks' Satcom division.

Pascall Electronics Ltd. was sold in March 2005, the same month as Labtech acquired the microwave component manufacturing facility of Filtronic Components Ltd at Milton Keynes, UK.
